The Da Vinci Science Center is seeking a creative, passionate educator, scientist, or engineer who loves learning about science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, teaching diverse learners, and making a difference in their community. The Educator will deliver extraordinary, fun learning experiences integrating STEAM subjects, work skills and STEAM career exploration for middle and high school students across the Lehigh Valley. Specific responsibilities include delivering classroom programs, creating engaging career exploration activities, creating and maintaining relationships with STEAM professionals, and presenting on STEAM careers in the Valley! The employee may also be asked to deliver programs on-site at the museum.


The desired candidate is fun, creative, knowledgeable, team-oriented, and a dependable educator who enjoys working with people, learning about and teaching STEAM. The ideal candidate for this position will be punctual, reliable, and comfortable working with learners of all ages (primarily 9-12) and abilities. Exemplary public speaking, organizational, and customer service skills are required. Educators will display a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in all aspects of their work. There is no guarantee of minimum hours; however, up to 22 hours a week is possible.

Schedules are dependent upon program assignment (classroom programs, cohort meetings, partners meetings, program planning and creation) and personal availability.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Attend and actively participate in training sessions to deliver STEAM Career Pathways educational programs.

·        Lead and/or assist with delivering STEAM Career Pathways educational programs as scheduled.

·        Set up and clean up the classroom space.

·        Work closely with students in grades 9-12 to guide them through the Career Pathways pipeline (Fall programming, Spring programming and Summer work experience opportunities).

·        Exhibit positive youth development in classroom management strategies that are appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of diverse learners.  

·        Follow the established schedule of daily events.

·        Represent the science center professionally to school and community contacts. Build and maintain the professional contacts involved with the program.

·        Attend partner meetings and planning meetings when needed.

·        Assist with scheduling employer participation and field trips.

·        Complete administrative tasks (filling out reflection forms, keeping track of student participation and outcomes, documenting and updating lesson plans incorporating best practices and feedback from students, educators, and employers, and responding to changing industry demand; tracking employer feedback etc.)

·        Stay informed about career opportunities and industry demand in the greater Lehigh Valley region.

·        Support the Science Center’s mission and values statement, support the mission to bring science to life and lives to science, and display a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging in all aspects of your work.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

B.S. degree in STEM field, secondary education, counseling, education, psychology, HR, or equivalent experience required. Some college level coursework is preferred, especially coursework in STEM fields, HR, and/or counseling.

Experience working with secondary school students required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. 

Organized; self-starter. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
