General Description


The STEM Summer Learning Coordinator will coordinate educational programming and logistics across up to 8 Da Vinci Science Center’s STEM Summer Learning program sites in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton.  The Coordinator will have a leadership role on the Program Development and Teaching Teams in the STEM Summer Learning Program.  The STEM Summer Learning Coordinator works with certified classroom teachers  to develop and teach integrated Reading, Math, and Science lessons to students who struggle with reading.  Programs are available for students entering grades 3 through 5.  The students attend the program for 6 weeks from late June through late July with time off for the July 4 holiday.  Program times vary but generally are from 8:30am-2:30pm.  This position will work from an agreed upon start date in May to early August. 

 

Coordinator responsibilities include working with Da Vinci staff and school district teachers to integrate science lessons with literacy and math instruction.  Coordinator will purchase and coordinate equipment and materials across all sites, serve as the primary point of contact with site coordinators and parents, train and assist staff at all sites, share program feedback with Da Vinci management, and ensure that impact surveys are completed at each site.  The coordinator will complete classroom observations and provide feedback to Da Vinci classroom teachers in implementing high quality reading and science instruction techniques.  Instructor responsibilities also include delivering STEM content and lesson planning as part of the Teaching Team.  Must have experience working with elementary students.  Instructor should be fun, knowledgeable, and dependable and enjoy working with students with a variety of abilities and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.  Coordinator should be passionate about trying new methods of teaching and learning how to integrate science and literacy into fun, inquiry-based programs.  Coordinator should be a champion for Summer Learning throughout the Science Center and within the community.  Positive classroom management and youth development perspective is a must.   Instructor should have good public speaking, organizational, and customer service skills. 

This position requires driving to multiple sites.  Employee will be reimbursed for travel at the 2024 IRS rate. 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinator and Instructor Responsibilities

  • Coordinate curriculum development sessions with Program Development Team consisting of school district teachers, Da Vinci Science Center educators, and other program leaders.

  • Actively participate in and lead professional development and training offered to STEM Summer Learning Instructors including content, classroom management, positive youth development, and Da Vinci Science Center policies and practices.

  • Lead the STEM program development for your classroom and other sites in collaboration with the Program Development Team.  Prepare ideas for discussion and lead meetings about STEM program implementation. Focus on integrating STEM and literacy in meaningful, relevant ways. 

  • Communicate and coordinate efforts with the rest of the teaching team about activities and goals

  • Communicate schedules to staff and sites.  Provide coverage for Da Vinci Science Center educator absences to STEM Summer Learning programs.

  • Provide a leading administrative role by keeping up to date with ongoing programs and communications between STEM Summer Learning sites, the STEAM Team, and reservations.

  • Lead the teaching of STEM lessons in classrooms during assigned teaching times.  Participate in other lessons that take place in the classroom and reinforce student learning across subjects.

  • Observe and assist staff in implementing programs in classrooms across the sites.  Provide feedback to help staff improve their teaching and youth development.

  • Procure and coordinate materials across all 3 sites and in collaboration with other Da Vinci programs.

  • Follow up with staff after programs and respond to staff concerns as needed.

  • Set up your classroom for all STEM activities.

  • Make safety a priority, especially with chemicals.

  • Implement positive youth development methods in classroom management.

  • Actively engage all students in learning experiences.

  • Incorporate student, teacher, and parent feedback into future lessons by participating in and leading team discussions about the program success and areas for improvement.

  • Clean up classroom after each program (put supplies away, wash goggles, wipe tables, sweep floor if needed).

 

  • Engage parents in program activities to the greatest extent possible.  Serve as a direct contact for parent feedback.

 

  • Ensure that impact surveys are completed at all sites.

 

  • Other duties as assigned

 

education requirements

High school graduate or equivalent. College level education preferred, especially experience with education or science courses. Experience working with children required.
